Joel L. Barber is a trial attorney with broad experience in litigation and advocacy. Since 2000, as both in-house counsel and panel counsel for major insurance companies, he has successfully defended individuals and businesses from personal injury, premise liability, and construction defect claims asserting $100s of millions worth of damages.
As a partner at the Brown Law Firm, Mr. Barber prosecutes claims for both residential and commercial landlords in litigation involving possession, lease violations, and indemnity obligations. He also represents apartment community service providers with collection claims. Mr. Barber also defends commercial tenants in breach of lease actions and defends landlords and property managers in suits brought by tenants under Texas Property Code Chapters 92, 93, and 94. In addition to his trial work, Mr. Barber has significant experience in mediations and arbitration. His knowledge of Texas law and his experience in multiple jurisdictions, along with thorough preparation in each case, allows for settlement from a position of strength. In each of his professional responsibilities, Mr. Barber strives to fulfill both the principles and spirit of the Texas Lawyer’s Creed. As a sixth-generation Texan, Mr. Barber feels blessed by deep family roots tracing back before the founding of the Texas Republic and blessed more by his wife of 30+ years, their five beautiful daughters, some lucky sons-in-law, and four grandchildren (and counting). Mr. Barber also has a special affinity for the country of Brazil, having lived there for nearly two years as a church missionary prior to completing his education. EDUCATION: J. During law school, he participated with distinction in mock trial, served as an editor for the BYU Journal of Public Law and was a Charter Director for the JRC Law & Economics Society. Brigham Young University, 1996 Before law school, Mr. Barber received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University - Provo, majoring in Economics with a minor in International Relations.
